You may have seen the “Personal Journeys” segment every Sunday in the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, in which the AJC shares the story of individuals who have experienced something profound. It can be joyous and optimistic, or tragic and sorrowful. Most importantly, however, as the AJC’s Suzanne Van Atten puts it, “the common thread that runs through them all is an unblinking look at what it means to be human, in all its messy, complicated, surprising glory.”
Now, the AJC is offering a chance for writers to share their own journeys. In its first ever Personal Journeys Writing Contest, readers have the chance to submit true, first person stories for a chance to win $750 and be published in the AJC. Entries should be 2,000–3,500 words, and the submission deadline is July 12, so get started now!
Along with the writing contest, DBF is proud to announce its new Personal Journeys Track, which will provide a forum for authors and festivalgoers alike to discuss their personal journeys through shared experiences. Event information for this track will be announced later this summer.
The contest winner will be announced the weekend of the AJC Decatur Book Festival Sept. 4–6, and their story will appear in the September 6 issue of the AJC.
