2024 Decatur Book Festival Design Contest

Objective: Create a vibrant, inclusive, and captivating design that embodies the essence of the Decatur Book Festival, highlighting community, diversity, and the love of reading.

Theme for Design: “Books Talk”: Books speak to us through the cover, the title, and the text. Books reveal secrets, answer questions, and ignite questions.

The winning design will be featured on festival T-shirts, flyers, and other marketing collateral. Proper credit will be attributed wherever the design is featured. Please note that designs may be adapted for specific mediums as needed.

Contest Rules and Guidelines

Eligibility:

• Age: Entrants must be 16 years of age or older.
• Residency: Entrants must be residents of the United States.
• Original Work: The design must be the entrant’s own original, unpublished work. By entering the competition, you agree that your submission is your own work, and the Decatur Book Festival has exclusive rights to your design.

Design Criteria:

• Creativity: Think outside the box! We encourage innovative and imaginative designs that capture attention and convey the festival’s energy and excitement. Please use the theme “Books Talk” as inspiration for your design.
• Inclusion of Festival Name: The design must include the name “Decatur Book Festival.”
• Scalability: Keep in mind that the winning design will be featured on a variety of marketing materials. Designs should be vertically oriented and tailored to fit on a T-shirt of all sizes, ensuring adaptability across other mediums such as flyers, posters, and digital media.
• Color Palette: Full spectrum encouraged! Please note that designs may be adjusted to accommodate specific mediums, such as T-shirts and promotional materials, which may require modifications to the color palette.

Submission Format:

• Please submit your design in a vertical PNG, JPG, or PDF format.
• The winning artist will be asked to provide vector files within one week of notification.

Prize:

• The winning designer will receive a cash prize of $500.
• The winning designer will also receive recognition and exposure through the festival’s official website, social media channels, and marketing materials.

Submission Deadline: June 30, 2024, at 11:59 pm EST

Winner Announcement: The winner will be selected and notified by the end of July. We will contact the winner via the email address provided during submission. The winner must submit the required vector files within one week of notification. Failure to submit the vector files by the deadline may result in the selection of an alternate winner.
