Poetry Reading with Brigitte Byrd and David Kirby
Baudelaire says the only way to escape the burden of time is to be drunk on “wine, poetry, or virtue, as you wish.” Get giddy with two very different poets who’ll sling words guaranteed to make you dance. They'll be reading from their new books and signing copies as well.
Andrea Jurjević is the author of Small Crimes, winner of the 2015 Philip Levine Poetry Prize, and a translator whose book-length translations from Croatian include Mamasafari, and Dead Letter Office. She teaches at Georgia State University in Atlanta.
More Than This
More Than This is, like Kirby’s previous collections, shot through with the roadhouse fervor of early rock ‘n’ roll. Yet there is another element here, an oceanic feeling more associated with the great symphonies of Europe than the two-minute singles of Little Richard. These poems will take you back in time and out in space, and they’re meant to leave you where you began: a little different, maybe, and, if not a little wiser, at least a little more aware of the endless possibilities that art and life offer us all.
