Born in Trenton, New Jersey and attended Central State University where she received a degree in Elementary Education. She has a Masters of Education from Georgia State University.

Joyce is a retired teacher and enjoyed teaching children and adults to read. She has taught at Central State University and at Chattahoochee Technical School in Marietta in the Adult Education Department. Joyce is a recipient of the NAACP Cobb County Teacher of the Year Award, the Marietta Outstanding Teacher Award and many other honors as an educator.

Joyce attends Berean Bible Baptist Church in Atlanta. She currently directs an outreach ministry at her church called Fresh Water Good News (FWGN). FWGN trains, resources and equips the women of Berean to serve homeless women outside of the church. Joyce is a member of the Ladies Planning Committee of Cedine Ministries in Tennessee. She is a frequent guest speaker in churches and ladies groups both locally and nationally. She is a former president of Spirited Silver Speakers Toast Masters Club in Atlanta.

Searching is her first book. She is currently working on a book for children called BOXES that tells the salvation story for little children. She has four grandchildren and loves to read.
