Matthew W. Quinn (b. 1984) grew up in Marietta. After graduating from the University of Georgia with degrees in magazine journalism and history, he spent several years in newspaper journalism and freelance social media, reporting for one newspaper, editing two more, and earning a commendation from the Georgia Department of Veterans Service. After that, he earned an M.A. in World History and became a social studies teacher in metro Atlanta. He teaches AP World History and AP Microeconomics and earned his school's STAR teacher honor in Spring 2017.

Throughout all of this, he has written science fiction, fantasy, and horror. His works have included creature features like "I am the Wendigo," "The Beast of the Bosporus," and "Nicor," alternate history like "Coil Gun" and "Picking Up Plans in Palma," and licensed stories set in the BattleTech and Fallen Empire science fiction universes. 2017 saw the publication of his Lovecraftian horror novel The Thing in the Woods, which has sold roughly 2,000 copies. A sequel is under construction.

Matthew is also a regular participant in the podcast MYOPIA: DEFEND YOUR CHILDHOOD, in which the movies you enjoyed as a child are put on trial to see if they hold up.
