Agnes Scott Collegiate Chorale
Time: 10:15 – 10:45 AM
Location: The Entertainment Stage on the First Baptist Church of Decatur Lawn, 308 Clairemont Ave, Decatur, Georgia 30030
The Collegiate Chorale, celebrating its 93rd year at Agnes Scott College, invites students to join the ensemble at the start of each academic year. Throughout the semester, they prepare music that culminates in a Final Concert in December. Each semester, students explore different historical, cultural, or musical concepts to deepen their understanding of choral music. This semester’s theme, “The Non-Idiomatic Choral Music of Black Composers,” is inspired by Dr. Marques Garrett’s research on the same topic. The students will proudly perform works by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Florence Price, Margaret Bonds, Ysaÿe Barnwell, Rosephanye Powell, and others. Recently, the Collegiate Chorale provided the music for Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter’s memorial at The Carter Center last November. We hope you enjoy this morning’s performance and look forward to seeing you on December 5th in Gaines Auditorium on the ASC campus.
