Georgia History with Michael L. Thurmond & Paul M. Pressly

Time: 11:15 AM – 12:00 PM

Location: The City of Decatur Stage 2 in the Swanton Amphitheatre of the Marriott Courtyard Hotel, 130 Clairemont Avenue, Decatur, GA, 30030

The prehistory of James Oglethorpe’s philosophical and moral evolution from Georgia founder and slave trader to abolitionist was propelled by his intellectual relationships with two formerly enslaved Black men. A powerful tale of how enslaved men and women found freedom and human dignity not in Jefferson’s “Empire of Liberty” but outside of the United States in Spanish and Indian-occupied territories.

Authors Michael L. Thurmond and Paul M. Pressly expand on the meticulous research, historical analysis and compelling storytelling that brings to life true events in Georgia’s rich history. The panel discussion will be held Saturday, October 5th at 11:15 AM on the City of Decatur Stage 2 in the Swanton Amphitheatre of the Marriott Courtyard Hotel. Following the panel, authors will proceed to signing tables to autograph books.

Purchase your book from Charis Books via this link, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the festival.
