A Letter to prospective individual donors

Dear Friend of the Decatur Book Festival,

We are thrilled to announce that the Decatur Book Festival (DBF) is back, stronger and more vibrant than ever before! After weathering the challenges of the past few years, we are excited to bring our beloved festival back to life – and we are here to stay.

Like many events, the DBF faced significant hurdles during the COVID pandemic, pivoting to a virtual format in 2020, followed by a scaled-back hybrid model in 2021, and a smaller yet resilient festival in 2022. Last year, we made the difficult decision to pause the festival, using the time to reflect, reassess, and reimagine its future. Thanks to two transformative gifts from DeKalb County and the Joe Barry Carroll Family Foundation, we’ve been able to take bold steps forward. These generous contributions enabled us to hire a full-time Executive Director and a part-time Program Director and Street Fair Manager – critical roles that have allowed us to rebuild and expand.

Now, we are on the cusp of an exciting new chapter for the DBF. This year’s festival promises to be a true celebration of literature and community. We are honored to welcome literary giants like Joyce Carol Oates as our keynote speaker and the inspiring Stacey Abrams as our kidnote speaker. With over 100 authors and moderators from across the nation, a star-studded lineup on our culinary stage, nearly 100 exhibitor booths on the Decatur Square, and engaging activities for families, including a children’s parade, Storyland Fun Zone, and family-friendly entertainment, this year’s festival will be nothing short of spectacular.

But none of this would be possible without your past support. Your generosity has been the lifeblood of the Decatur Book Festival, and as we approach our 20th anniversary celebration in 2025, your continued commitment is more important than ever. Our vision is not just to bring the festival back – we aim to elevate it to new heights, ensuring it thrives for years to come.

To achieve this, we need your help. Your gift today will not only support this year’s festival but will also play a crucial role in securing the future of the DBF for generations to come.

Will you consider making a donation today? Your support will make a lasting difference.

With deep gratitude,
Leslie Wingate
