Philippa Gregory

#1 New York Times bestselling author Philippa Gregory will appear at the AJC Decatur Book Festival on Sunday, Sep. 1.

Atlanta – July 18, 2019 – Philippa Gregory is regarded by many as one of the greatest living storytellers of the modern era. She returns to Georgia to promote her latest novel, Tidelands, at the 2019 AJC Decatur Book Festival presented by Emory University. Tickets to the Sunday, September 1 event are on sale now through the Eagle Eye Bookshop website.

Born in Nairobi, Kenya, and raised in Bristol, U.K., Gregory is a recognized authority on women’s history. Her works of historical fiction have sold more than 10 million copies in North America. In 2002, the Romantic Novelists’ Association awarded its Romantic Novel of the Year Award to her most critically acclaimed novel, The Other Boleyn Girl, which also became a major motion picture starring Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman. Other historical titles include Three Sisters, Three Queens, The Last Tudor (now in production as a television series), and The White Queen, which was adapted for a BBC One television mini-series in 2013.

Unlike her previous novels, which delve into the quietly noble and mysterious existences of the monarchy, Tidelands tells the story of an ordinary woman, Alinor, who cannot bear to conform to the life that lies before her. Gregory set the book in the midst of England’s Civil War of 1642-1649, when the country is gripped by polarizing, political turmoil. Even the remote, poverty-stricken marshlands are teeming with political tension.

Alinor, a single mother and midwife who lives a pauper’s life, is suspected of being a witch due to her knowledge and familiarity with the herbs and fauna of her surroundings.Tidelands: A Novel by Philippa Gregory In the 1600s, being accused of practicing witchcraft carried potential threats of persecution, exile, and even death. When Alinor crosses paths with a royalist priest in hiding, romance, mayhem, and intrigue drive a story that will have seasoned readers and newcomers alike sitting on pins and needles till the final page is turned.

The book is just one installment of Gregory’s Fairmile Series. On Sunday, September 1, from 6:30-8 p.m., Gregory will appear as a featured guest at the First Baptist Church of Decatur at 308 Clairemont Ave. She will discuss Tidelands, her body of work, and what she has in store for the future. Tickets are $30 plus tax and are available now on the Eagle Eye Bookshop website. The admission price includes a copy of Tidelands, which readers can pick up during the Decatur Book Festival at the Eagle Eye Bookshop tent in front of the church.
